HISTORY

The Rovers Story

Rovers Basketball Club was founded in 1952 by members of the East Geelong Sporting Club. "East Rovers" was started as a way for Winter sport players to keep active during the Summer off-season. The club soon expanded and grew to include many sports, including Basketball, Softball and Netball.

During the 90's the "East" part of the name was dropped and the club had players from all over the Geelong region playing each week.

Training has been held at many venues including St Joseph's, Clairvaux Primary, Western Heights, Wangala Primary and most recently, Armstrong Creek School.

Rovers eventually settled on basketball as the only sport and has grown to include teams across all age levels playing in the Geelong United Basketball Association. With over 40 teams playing each week, Rovers is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the region.

With a strong focus on teamwork, sportsmanship and participation in sport at all levels, Rovers is a club for all players and welcomes everyone to come and join us.

Rovers basketball club would like to Acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nations as the traditional Custodians of the Country on which we all gather and play basketball. We pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging.
